      How to spot a Christian

study notes from last night at Fusion

      1. Just because we may do something on the outside that a Christian would be considered doing doesn’t really mean that we are.

      · If I go to church does that make me a Christian? Nope, just because a mouse gets inside a cookie jar it doesn’t make it a cookie does it?

      · Maybe if I carry around a big Bible I’m a Christian? If you tote around something that is meaningless to you what’s the point.

      · Maybe if I wear a Christian t-shirt then I’ll be one. Wearing a shirt with Jesus on it or some church doesn’t automatically make you holy.

      · The one we hear the most, if I believe in God then I must be a Christian. NO! Just because you believe in “God” makes you no more a Christian then the very demons.

James 2:19 Do I hear you professing to believe in the one and only God , but then observe you complacently sitting back as if you had done something wonderful? That's just great. Demons do that, but what good does it do them ?

      3. Teens, as we can see doing none of this outwardly stuff makes us a Christian.

(A). They will recognize you as a Christian by your relationship with Christ.

Mar 14:66 While Peter was still in the courtyard, a servant girl of the high priest came up 67 and saw Peter warming himself by the fire. She stared at him and said, " You were with Jesus from Nazareth !" 68 Peter replied, "That isn't true! I don't know what you're talking about. I don't have any idea what you mean." He went out to the gate, and a rooster crowed.

Guys, there is a huge difference between just believing in God and having a deep faith rooted in God. Teens, during the summer when you spend time outside in the sun people can see it. The sun leaves physical evidence on you that people can see. Guys when you spend time in the presence of the sun of God Jesus Christ you will see, and most definitely people will see it as well.

(B). They will recognize you as a Christian by the people you spend time with.

Mark 14:69 The servant girl saw Peter again and said to the people standing there, " This man is one of them !" 70 "No, I'm not!" Peter replied.

This is a saying I want you guys to always remember, “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your destiny.” The people that you spend most of your time with will help shape and determine your future. Teens you want that light in you to always stay bright as a light house, stay close and connected to Church and fellow believers. You really do have no idea how essential fellowship is.

(C). They will recognize you as a Christian by your speech.

Mark 14:70 A little while later some of the people said to Peter, "You certainly are one of them. You're a Galilean!" 71 This time Peter began to curse and swear, "I don't even know the man you're talking about!"

Any of you guys ever heard you need to talk the talk and walk the walk? Well as important as living a blameless life in front of our unbelieving friends is it’s equally important to talk the talk.

  • Save Me.

    • From: Strummer
    • Description:
      Darkness slowly creeping.
      My face is gently weeping.
      Pain ever growing.
      Love quickly fading!

      Darkness is after me,
I'm running out of places to hide-
      all these feelings stuffed inside

      Evil is persuing me,
      the darkness is to thick
      I really can't see.

      I cant escape
      its around every corner.
I knew I never should have been such a loner.

      I keep running now,
      My head is spinning now.
      My heart is aching now,
      My feet are moving now,
      My eyes are crying now...

Will this evil ever cease to be?
Will I ever be able to cry out with glee?
There is somthing I have not seen,
Theres just gotta be a way to wipe me clean.

      Jesus help me,I am falling.
Evil is overcoming me,darkness is winning,
I have rebelled against you and now I'm losing.
I recognize you now,you are the only thing to start me healing.

      Jesus save me,scoop me up
in your arms and I'll say I'm sorry.
I wont rebel against you anymore dont you worry.

      Then I saw it.
      A light getting closer,
in my mind it got brighter,
      as darkness got further.

      Healing,slowly repaired me.
      Arms embraced me,
      Fear left me.
      Love entered me.

      As I felt his love,
the war inside my heart faded,
      away into itself....
      Darkness into darkness.

  • Baby Girl.

    • From: Strummer
    • Description:

      Baby Girl.

      "Baby Girl"

      There was a girl.
      She was beautiful so.
      She was only eight.
And she loved to dance and play.
      In the rain.

      She had a mother
      And she loved her so.
      She would use any moment.
      To let it show.

      And when she got hurt.
      Or cried the most.
      Her mother would be there.
      To hold her close..

      Her mother would say...

      ::Chorus::

      Don't you cry,
      It'll be alright.
      Don't you worry.
      I'm right here.
      I won't let go.
      I'll hold you close.
      Close to my heart.

      ::V2::

      It had been some years.
      She was thirteen today.
      Her love for her mother.
      Had never changed.

      Her mother called.
And said she was sick with cancer.
      When the young girl asked
how bad it was she didn't answer.

      As time went on.
      Her mother died.
      And her father came.
      He wasn't the nicest man...

      ::Chorus2:

      How could he
      Hurt her so?
      How could she
      Survive so long?
      What did she do wrong?

      ::V3::

She was talking to one of her friends.
      They were talking about Jesus.
A God who cures and heals
      Hurts and pains.
It was then that she met her savior

      She was filled with joy.
      She couldn't help but laugh.
      She felt release
      From the sins she had.

She went to tell her father.
      Of Jesus Christ her redeemer.
      He rejected her words.
      And hurt her some more.
      He took it to far.
It was then that he killed her...

      ::PreChorus::

      At her funeral,
      There was letter.
      It was signed.
      Mother and Daughter.
      To their friends.
      Who were teary eyed.

      It said.

      Jesus came,
      he held us close.
      He took away our pain
      and replaced it with joy.

      He said.

      ::Chorus::

      Don't you cry,
      It'll be alright.
      Don't you worry.
      I'm right here.
      I won't let go.
      I'll hold you close.
      Close to my heart.

(I wrote this song for a woman that has had most of her family die from cancer. The truth behind the song is,sometimes things go wrong...But God is good always.)

  • Bleeping is really not cool

    • From: thenewway
    • Description:

Hey guys, just a short note:

I'm in Colorado right now, and what I've been hearing a lot of is profanity. It's pretty much driving me insane. My cousins bleep, they watch movies and TV that bleep, play profane card games and listen to a comedian that bleeps every other word - not an exaggeration. I need to tell you guys this: my cousins are all really good-looking people, but all of a sudden they are seriously not attractive once you start living with them.

You guys, look up some of those verses involving how powerful the tongue is. But they pretty much sum up this:

      1. You can't take back what you say. Ever.

      2. Your words can hurt or heal, but it's all up to you. For example, your words could sentence a man to his death, or they could prescribe a healing medicine.

So really, just think about that. It's really really unattractive if you have a potty mouth.

      Crush the Crush

      1. What definition of love have you seen lived out in your life? We need to open our eyes and see through the games of the world. The lies and trappings of small time love vs. big time love. We need to redefine what true love and romance is. Understand the first romance in the Bible wasn’t between Adam and Eve. It was between Adam and God. Gen 2.

      2. The world’s version of romance is a cheap imitation of the truth.

      Ø Commercials

      Ø Movies

      Ø Tv shows

      3. These are all examples of small time love.

      Ø Flirting, it’s a sign of

      v Insecurity

      v Immaturity

Ø They are going to use you. And they won’t stop until you stop them or you have nothing left to offer them.

Ø They don’t respect you or even know you. You’re just another person to them and not worth the time investing into.

      4. When you’re finally are ready for romance don’t give it away ! Pro 4:23 Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it.

      5. Your heart is like the remote control of your life. Don’t ever give it away! What happens when you give your heart away?

Ø You get broken . Your heart gets ripped apart. It’s a rehearsal for divorce .

Ø Confusion . You run your life by your emotions . You’re only happy when you’re in a relationship or your boyfriend of girl friend isn’t mad at you.

Ø Manipulation. You either manipulate or you get manipulated.

Ø You give away your purity . You become convinced that sex is the only real emotional or physical way to show your love to them. It happens without you even intending to do it.

      6. Big time love offers us real love with out any strings, requirements, or demands. Date God for a while. See what real love feels like. Do the Adam and God thing.

Ø Instead of going out on a date , go spend time with God.

Ø Instead of reading a love letter , read the Bible.

Ø Instead of calling the person on the phone, pray and talk to God.

      7. Put the energy you would into a dating relationship into your walk with God. Now yes, you will be made fun of for “dating Jesus”, but there are great benefits.

Ø Gets your mind and heart refocused.

Ø Allows you to see what real love is, when you spend time with love itself.

Ø Instead of throwing your heart and mind into endless and meaningless relationship, you help protect your self for your one and only.

There’s a place in your heart,
When your blind and can not see.
You cant find in your heart, words to set you free.

      But when your down
      And feeling so sad,
And you need the strength to carry on.
      You might get lonely sometimes.

But there’s only one to call on.
He can help you through anything.
He’s there for you no matter what.

      No matter where you are
Or what time it is, he is there.
He is the one who gives you breath .
The one who loves you most.

The reason we go on living.
      If he weren’t here
      There’d be no tomorrow.

      He is night and day.
      He is death and life,
Laughter and sorrow, he is all things
      He is God.

  • The Difference.........

    • From: GenerationMPact
    • Description:

      THE DIFFERENCE.....

I got up early one morning

      and rushed right into the day;

I had so much to accomplish

That I didn't have the to pray.

      Problems just trumbled about me

      and heavier came each task.

"Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered

      He answered. "You didn't ask."

I wanted to see joy and beauty.

But the day toiled on. Gray and bleak:

I wondered why God didn't show me.

He said, "But you didn't seek."

I tried to come into God's presence:

I used all my keys at the lock.

      God gently and lovingly chided.

      "My child, you didn't knock."

I woke up early this morning

      and paused before entering the day;

I had so much to accompish

that I had to take time to pray.

    • From: babyluvWWJD
    • Description:

have you ever noticed how so many of those who call themselves christians are hypocritical? where in church they will lift up there hands and praise God but the moment they walk out those doors they lie, they steal, they deceive, they sin in many ways.(ex.committing adultery) some thing i have realized is itdoesn't only matterhow you act in church because that is not where you are reflecting God's love to those in need of God the most... it is when you are walking into the grocery store, when you are at work or school... i am not saying it is an easy task i know what you are thinking... " what if they look at me weird for spreading God's word... or what will they say about me?" well i have one thing to tell you... WHO FREAKING CARES!!!!

do you think jesus cared about what those around him thought? do you think that what they said about him influenced him enough to not do it...

just think about how many chances you have had in the past to possibly change someones life and turn their life aroundbut didn'tbc you were afraid to go and talk to them...

scary thought isn't it? what mask is it that you wear? think to yourself.. are you a hypocrite? i know that at times i am...

i screw up some times... i make mistakes... FYI we are human we aren't expected to be perfect... but we should always strive for perfection... strive to be just like jesus...as we strive for this we will better ourselves from the inside out....

so i ask this of you... if you are reading this search your heart and find who you are in christ...

      never give up...

  • Amazing Lyrics

    • From: runnerboy36
    • Description:

      "Legacy" by Nichole Nordeman

I don't mind if you've got something nice to say about me
And I enjoy an accolade like the rest
You could take my picture and hang it in a gallery
Of all who's who and so-n-so's that used to be the best
      At such'n'such ... it wouldn't matter much

I won't lie, it feels alright to see your name in lights
We all need an 'Atta boy' or 'Atta girl'
But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besides
The temporary trappings of this world

I want to leave a legacy
      How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love? Did I point to You enough
To make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace who
      blessed your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy

I don't have to look too far or too long awhile
To make a lengthly list of all that I enjoy
It's an accumulating trinket and a treasure pile
Where moth and rust, thieves and such will soon enough destroy

Not well traveled, not well read, not well-to-do or well bred
Just want to hear instead, "Well Done" good and faithful one...
      ---------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------

The lyrics to this song really describe my goal in life. Sure, it's great to win awards and be famous, but that's not our main goal in life. "But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besidesthe temporary trappings of this world." Sometimes we just get too caught with things that have no meaning in the span of eternity. I'm a good runner and a lot of people know me as "a runner". I have to try to learn to not let that cover up my true identity as a Christian. It's great to use our God given talents to glorify Him, but if we don't let people know that we are doing it for God some people will glorify us instead. When we leave this earth, how will people remember us? Will they remember you as the runner, the good student, and thefunny guyor will they remember you as a servant of others and a follower of Christ?

  • James 1:27

    • From: AfterGodsHeart
    • Description:

      James 1:27

"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." (ESV)

So James is writing to the Jewish Christians who at the time had grown arrogant in their religious...ness. I mean he's having to explain to them just earlier that they need cool off, stop talking big and start putting their faith into action. He says [paraphrased] if you want to be religious, but you can't stop talking and start doing, then your religion is worthless. Now here is how you be "religious." Seeing as how all the Jews were big on their 'religion,' James sets them straight.

Now I've heard this verse countless times before, but barely anyone quotes the last part. Everyone says, "Religion that is pure...yeah is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction." At least that's all they say to me and that's all we remember of it, but the second part is equally important. "and to keep oneself unstained from the world." (The NIV talks about not being polluted).

So if we can be stained, then we obviously have something clean and pure about us. From the time of salvation, we become heirs to the thrown of God, new creations, partakers of the blessing of the Holy Spirit, etc etc. But it's like we are clean! And the world we live in is fallen; dirty to say the least.

      Believers in Christ = clean
      World = dirty

So right there is a command to stay pure, an acknowledgment that the world is bad, and a a mandate or mission. "To keep oneself unstained..." ah... but if we can work to remain unstained (with God's grace as our help), can't we encourage others along the path and bring others with us? Yes. It's almost like James gave us a sort of 'Great Commission.' I would venture to say that the health of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ is our responsibility. I play a part in helping my suite mates stay clean, and they do the same for me, because we're all subject to this verse. And if one falls, I (or they) should be quick to help.

Back to Believers being clean and the world being dirty... This is another 'be in the world but not of it' verse. Perhaps this is why the church naturally shies away from the whole secular world; so much so that it actually hurts them. I mean this verse can be taken WAY overboard. Like I'm gonna lock myself in my room for the next 100 years or shelter my kids so they can't even identify the sun! That's wrong. So this is interesting!

We all know about the Great Commission and how Christians are all mandated to save the lost and reach the unreached. Everyone knows you have to get your hands dirty to go be a missionary to unreached peoples. But that's totally not the same dirt. We're willing to sacrifice ourselves for them, but we aren't selling out to Islam or Buddhism. See the difference.

Or the secular world in America. It's gonna take a lot of work and immersion in this dirty culture for us to make any change for the good. Does that mean we're staining our Christianity? No. We stain our Christianity when we sell out to the culture; when we stoop to their level, even with good intentions. It would be like a Christian missionary saying that Buddha is god just for the sake of being accepted. Wrongo!

So even though we reach out to the world, we can do so without getting stained. So some Christians need come out from under their rocks and stop out of their comfort zone. And other Christians need to wise up and stay pure and clean (myself included), because that is how you climb the ladder in heaven. You don't be religious by talking a good talk, but by walking a good walk. Here's to integrity!

Wow that's a lot to pull from 8 words...

  • Soar with You

      So many promises made,

      And yet so many fade,

Lord, how can I let my yes, be yes?

      And nothing less,

How can I let my no, be no?

For in You do I want to grow.

      To be living evidence

      In Your love, so intense

      Walking by Your strength

      With such a length

      Of extravagant brotherly love

And when one displays a bitter shove

      To turn the other cheek

While having a heart that’s meek

      This do I pray

      In Your everlasting ray

      Teach me oh Lord, forevermore

For with You will I soar

Why dont people speak up for what they believe in? If you are crazy about God why do you deny him infront of your friends? When this question is asked, many people say "I am afraid of what people are going to say about me and when they will think about me" Who cares what they say or what they think... all that matters is that you are standing up for God and he will reward you for that. Just remember... the rewards you get from your friends here on earth dont stand a chance with the rewards you get from God in Heaven.

Be Yourself and dont be afraid to show people how much you love God! He will reward you!

  • Get Up and GO!

Living in a world where depression and confussion is the norm.
When feeling down is what seems to be the driving force of actually feeling alive and emotional.

Life, given to us by a Higher Being... one whom we can easily ignore, choose to ignore, choose to spite and reject. We could be right... but what if we aren't. When the time comes we then find out it IS reality, it's the "truth" .

      Where will it leave us?

We are made to feel vacant, hollow and lost; we are made to feel confused and overwhelemed with other feelings and desires, we long to love and be loved. We "ALL" need something!

There might be no tomorrow left for us to find answers. Answers to our innumerable questions.
--> So, what better way to find answers BUT to go and look for them, to look for the Truth. Will we just wait and let it come?

The Truth is here. For EVERYONE to discover and accept. If we continue to cloud our eyes with "what ifs" and uncertainty... Life is one complete worthless bubble that we play a part as puppets.

So GET UP! GO , and challenge yourself, find the TRUTH for yourself, it is time we came out of this *coma*.

Do NOT settle for what's comfortable, NEVER settle for what's easier... Seek for what is this thing your missing; how do we find it? Have it?

We have been given a job, a task at hand...

If it all seems as if there is nothing left to hope and live for, and that you are nothing of worth, know this:

we are created for one purpose and ONE alone: we are made for HIM!

      YOU MATTER TO HIM!

  • Like Everyone Around Me

    • From: chasinghim4ever
    • Description:

I ask my mom and dad for money they don't really have

to buy me clothes and shoes

to impress everyone around me .

I spend an hour each day

painting my face and smooothing my hair

to look like everyone around me .

My Bible rests on my nightstand-

no time to read or pray,

but I have time to watch the shows

      and bop to the music

      of everyone around me .

I went to the mailbox today

in the pile was a magazine with pictures of everything I want

and another one from a ministry

      with pictures of

      childrenb who have no shoes.

      They wear tattered clothes

and rejoice for a bowl of rice,

but their smiles glowed with a beauty

      unlike everyone around me .

      It struck me:

      I don't rejoice,

      I want.

I am anxious, discontent, jealous, and insecure.

I let the Holy Spirit speak to me,

      "Be like me:

      Be like me,"

And suddenly I didn't want to be

      Like eveyone around me .

I want to be like him.

  • DO YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL?

    • From: upgraded
    • Description:

Well... i've been running this race for 6 months now, can't believe i've made it this far... i'm surprised in myself, it seems like yesterday when i was busy battling myself on whether i was ready to give the world up for our awesome Creator... here i am again... what can i say?

i'm dragging my feet, almost crawling... Loving Him gets tough sometimes. He's so close yet so far away. Sometimes i can literally feel His love in my heart, the next i'm asking Him where He is or if He can even hear me

Trust me, this is where i wanna be... this is where i need to be. Even when i've fallen there's something in me that won't let Him go.

I guess the thing is this relationship needs my devotion and commitment. At times i feel like going down on my knees and saying, "God, I can't. I'm in over my head with You. You're too great for me and i feel like i'm not worth it so why should i even try? I keep making the same mistakes over and over, i feel like i'm at the same place You found me. I have nothing to offer. I'm so close to giving up. I'm so close to letting go"

I've come too far to turn back now. I've given Him my heart and i don't want it back, i want Him to fix and repair it; i don't want Him to do alot with it, just touching it is enough for me.

      I know He's here... somewhere, He's here.

Do you know how I feel?
